Our YSI organised 3 speakers from Tiglin to come in to talk to us about homelessness and their work to help those sleeping rough. 2 of our speakers had been homeless.
During the talk a man named John, who was once homeless for 10+ years, told us of his rough upbringing in an army household and how he turned to drugs to take his mind away from home life. He told of how he slept rough and heard about his other homeless friends dying on the streets.
John has now fully recovered and is now going back out onto the streets trying to help out other rough sleepers that he once knew. The overall message of the Tiglin visit was to show how homeless people are still people who just lost their way in life but still need help.
The talk was very moving and impactful and to help the Tiglin charity, our YSI group organised a bag packing for supplies for homeless people that are helped by Tiglin.
