On Friday 10th November, a speaker from the Aware community came in, to talk to us about recognising signs of anxiety and depression, and how to cope with stress to prevent anxiety.
We were told how it isn’t obvious that people have depression or anxiety and that spotting the signs can be difficult. We were told how many people are bipolar and depressed in Ireland and how difficult it is to deal with these conditions on a day to day basis.
To manage anxiety and stress, we were told how that every night before falling asleep, writing down 3 things that we were grateful for, that past day, can help to relieve the effects of anxiety.
To cope with stress, the speaker told us about the coping triangle. This is a method of identifying your thoughts, feelings, and actions regarding a topic that causes stress. By identifying these factors we would be able to take a positive approach to a situation to relieve stress.
Overall the aware talk gave me a better insight into how common and painful mental illnesses can be and how to manage stress and anxiety.
